Have you ever wanted to travel to an exotic tropical Island and help the local community do something worthwhile?

In 2004, Forty Four Venturers and Rovers from Canberra participated in the 'Honiara Project' to refurbish and repair the Red Cross Development School in Honiara.

A youth team was established and with the support of a small group of leaders, the team raised the required funds, travelled to the Solomon Islands and acheived every goal they had set themselves, plus some more. They also felt that the Scouts of the Solomon Islands would be truly worthy recipients of our efforts

With that in mind, in 2005 another group of young people arranged an exchange program for a group of ten Solomon Islands Scouts, who visited the ACT in September.

And the Story Continues.

A Second Project to the Solomon Islands for ACT Venturers and Rovers is now being organised. The trip is going to take two weeks, and will be happening this coming September. The aim of the program is to provide young people with an opportunity to develop through involvement in a relevant community project that will challenge and inspire. We hope to achieve this through the planning and implementation of a practical project involving the Scouts of the Solomon Islands.

2004 team leader Sophie Palavestra presents the Chief Commissioner of the Solomon Islands Joe Billy Oge with a team scarf and badge.

Project Description

So What will we do ?

The Scouts of the Solomon Islands work hand in hand with the community, teaching practical and Social Skills, creating a culture of peace and providing developmental education to young people in a disadvantaged region.

They have recently acquired a property and are in need of some assistance in the provision of fresh water, sanitary latrines and other infrastructure that will enable them to deliver the program from this location. It is hoped that this will become the core of the project.

As the project plans are finalised, you will be able to find them on the documents page
